Switch 3, ][+ Boot Enable

Leaving this switch open allows a II+ or an unenhanced //e to boot directly from the hard disk. The Vulcan still must be the first drive device encountered (usually slot 7). If the hard disk is not to be the boot device in these systems, this switch should be dosed. In a / /e retrofit or an enhanced / /e, this switch should also be closed.

Note: For a complete description of the functions of the switches, refer to App. D.

Use a small, pointed object, like a wooden toothpick or bent-out paperclip to change a switch setting.

The circle on each switch represents the end that should be pressed for a standard ][+ and unenhanced / /e setup.

Slot 7 Pseudo-Slotting

If your slot 7 does not have a card in it, but is blocked, you can install the card into another slot and make it appear to be in slot 7. This process is called pseudo-slotting.

If you want to pseudo-slot the card, you’ll need to set switch 2 to Open and 4 to Closed.
