C. FLASHING , FLICKERIN G, OR INTERMI TTENT
OPERATION
The image may appear to fli cker or flash. If there is mo re than
one flicker, check for loo se batter y adapte r or w eak batte ry.
Return the ATN NVM-14 to the maintainer.
D. COSMETIC BLE MISHES
These are usually the result of manufacturing imperfections that
do not affect image intens ifier reliabilit y and are not normally a
cause for rejecting ATN NVM-14. However, some types of blem-
ishes can get worse over time and interfere with the ability to per-
nance forms and identify the position of the blemish by using the
clock method an d approximate di stance from th e center (e.g.,
5:00 toward the outside, 2:30 near the center, or 1:00 midway).
The following are cosmetic blemishes:
1. Bright Spots
.
A bright spot is a small, non-uniform, bright area that may flicker
or appear constant (Figure 5-3).
Not all bright sp ots make t he ATN NVM-14 rej ectable. Cup
your hand over the len s to block out all light. If the bri ght spot
remains, return the ATN NVM-14 to the maintainer. Bright spots
usually go away when the light is blo cked out. Make sur e any
bright spot is not simply a bright area in the scene you are view-
ing.
Bright spo ts are acceptab le if t hey do not inte rfere
with the ability to view the ou tside scene and the ab ility to
perform the mission.
