6 Close the cover

To clean the print head and nozzles

If the printing quality deteriorates you can quickly clear the print head and test the nozzles with a print-out showing their condition.

	Function	Press the Function button until the display
	F
		shows HEAD MAINTENANCE

Display shows NEW HEAD: ON

Start

Either

If the print head is new, press the Start

Start button. Your PaperJet 50 performs a print test.

Or

If the print head is not new, press to display

Volume

NEW HEAD: OFF

Display shows CLEANING: ON

Start

Your machine performs a print test.

Start

To cancel, press the Stop button.

Stop

To interpret the print test, see page 12.

If the printout shows NOZZLE DAMAGED then you should clean the printhead contacts, see opposite.

Manually cleaning the printhead contacts

Lift the printer compartment cover.

Remove the print cartridge and head.

Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the electrical contacts taking care not to touch the nozzles.

Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the electrical contacts of the carriage inside the machine.

Replace the print head and cartridge.

Close the cover.
