Shooting at Preset Focal Lengths (Step Zoom)

You can shoot at preset focal lengths of 28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm, 100

mmor 112 mm (35mm film equivalents). This is convenient when you want to shoot at the angle of view of those focal lengths.

Assign to the z dial (p. 132).

Choose a focal length.

Turn the zdial clockwise until it clicks to change the focal length from 28 mm to 35 mm. Keep turning the zdial to increase the focal length, which changes to 50 mm, 85 mm, 100 mm, and 112 mm at each click.

Step zoom is not available when shooting movies even if you turn the

zdial.

When using the digital zoom (p. 55), turning the zdial clockwise will not change the zoom factor. However, turning the zdial counterclockwise will set the focal length to 112 mm.
