GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Batch Blocking: Method of entering jobs. For example, with a stack of ten or more trays, you can enter or scan all jobs in succession and then start to process them either by first in/ first out or last in/ first out.

Blocking Chamber: Where the lens is placed for analysis and blocking. Four grippers will center and hold the lens in place until the blocking is complete.

Coordinate Origin: Position 0,0 for X and Y; it is the starting point for the placement of the finished block on the lens.

Edge Detection Threshold: Refers to the sensitivity of the camera image to detect the edge of a lens for diameter measurement. This is found on the Technician screen and is generally numbered between 15 and 20.

Grippers: Four paddles that clamp and center the lens in the blocking chamber once Start is selected.

Gain: Intensity of the brightness of the camera.

Glass Plate: Found in the accessory kit during shipping; it covers the opening in the blocking chamber.

Oval Calibration Template: This is a pattern attached to a Vario block found in the accessory kit. It is used to calibrate the block position and axis of the chuck.

Power Checks: The number of times the camera will take a shot and be analyzed.

Power Offset: In the Calibration screen; used if a consistent power error occurs. For example, all minus lenses are coming out .25 diopters weak so you would put a +.25 adjustment in this field.

Power Targets: The number of different sized targets that will be used in the analysis.

Prescribed: The prescription as written by the optician – sent from the retail location to the lab.
