Configuring Spanning Tree Protocol Settings

The GbE Interconnect Switch supports the 801.2d Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), which allows you to create alternative paths (with multiple switches or other types of bridges) in your network.

When you select STP Switch Settings from the Spanning Tree menu, the following screen is displayed.

You can change the following STP parameters:

Spanning Tree Protocol—Choose to enable or disable the STP setting.

Bridge Max Age (6–40Sec)—Type the maximum age. The range is 6 to 40 seconds. When the maximum age is reached, if a Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU) has still not been received from the Root Bridge, your GbE Interconnect Switch will start sending its own BPDU to all other switches for permission to become the Root Bridge. If your GbE Interconnect Switch has the lowest bridge identifier, it will become the Root Bridge.
