The status of any applications and data using the quorum disk will not affect the status of the Cluster Group.

Because the quorum disk plays a crucial role in cluster operation, losing the quorum disk will cause the entire cluster to fail. To prevent this type of failure, configure the quorum resource on a shared disk drive protected by a fault tolerant redundant array of independent disks (RAID) set, preferably on a volume that spans multiple storage enclosures.

Verifying Cluster Functionality

To ensure that a PowerEdge FE100/FL100 Datacenter Server Cluster configuration functions properly, check the system's functionality and configuration settings and verify that the cluster meets the following conditions:

All IP addresses and network names in the cluster are communicating with each other and other components in the network.

The Cluster Service is running.

All resources and recovery groups are online.

All resources and recovery groups come online on the remaining cluster node(s) after manually moving them.

Verifying Cluster Service

The Cluster Service manages all of the activity on the cluster node, including mem- bership management, communication management, and failover management. When Cluster Service is properly installed, it starts on each cluster node and responds auto- matically in the event that one of the nodes fails or goes offline.

To verify that Cluster Service is running on the cluster node, perform the following steps:

1.Click the Start button and select Programs—> Administrative Tools—> Services.

The Services window appears.

2.Confirm that Cluster Service is started and that it is set to start automatically.

Verifying Cluster Resource Availability

In the context of clustering, a resource is a basic unit of failover management. Appli- cation programs are made up of resources that are grouped together for recovery purposes. All recovery groups—and therefore the resources that comprise the recov- ery groups—must be online (or in a ready state) for the cluster to function properly.
