You can also change the failover order for your resources by modifying the Preferred Owners list in the Modify Preferred Owners window, which is accessed through Cluster Administrator. If some of your cluster nodes lack the resources to handle the additional workload of a failover application, rather than using the “Cascading failover” order (node 1—> node, 2—> node 3—> node 4), you can change the failover configu- ration to a preselected order of cluster nodes.

For example, if you know that node 2 and node 3 have ample resources to handle one application and nodes 1 and 4 are borderline, you can configure that application with this failover order: node 2—> node 3—> node 1—> node 4.

Modifying the Failover Sequence of the Disk Groups

To modify the failover sequence of the disk groups, perform the following steps:

1.Click the Start button and select Programs—> Administrative Tools—> Cluster Administrator.

2.Locate the disk group that contains the resources you want to failover in a pre- ferred failover order.

3.Right-click the disk group and select Properties. The Properties window appears.

4.In the General tab, click Modify.

The Modify Preferred Owners window appears with a list of available cluster nodes in the left pane and a list of preferred owners in the right pane. The cluster nodes in the Preferred Owners pane are listed in order of failover attempt.

5.Reorder the disks groups by selecting a disk group and clicking the Up and Down arrows on the right side of the window.

6.Click OK.

The Properties window appears.

7.Click OK.
