4.Assign drive letters and volume labels to the disks.

To assign drive letters and volume labels to the disks, perform the following steps:

a.Power down all cluster nodes except node 1.

b.Assign drive letters on node 1, using the Windows 2000 Disk Management utility to create the drive letters and volume labels.

For example, create volumes labeled “Volume E” for disk E and “Volume F” for disk F.

c.Power down the cluster node.

d.Power on the next cluster node and start the Windows 2000 Disk Management utility. Assign the drive letters to the shared disks and shut- down the node.

e.Repeat step d for each remaining node.

The drive letter assignment should be performed on each of the shared disks, even if the disk displays the drive letter correctly.

If the cables are connected properly, the drive order will be the same on all nodes, and the drive letter assignments should follow the same order on all nodes.

The volume labels can also be used to double-check the drive order by ensuring that the disk volume label is assigned to an identical drive letter for each node.
