diffused

A halftoning or dithering method where dot patterns are used to represent blended images in millions of colors. The printer driver has four diffused settings: pencil art, high speed, images, and complex diagrams.

dpi

Dots per inch. The dpi measures the resolution. See also resolution.

driver

economy printing

Printing in which images are printed with fewer dots to save ink.

ESC/P ®

Abbreviation for EPSON Standard Code for Printers. See also ESC/P 2.

ESC/P 2

The enhanced version of the ESC/P printer command language. Commands in this language produce laser-like features, such as scalable fonts and enhanced graphics printing.

font

A style of type designated by a family name.

grayscale

A method of portraying color images in black and white.

halftoning

Methods of using tiny dot patterns to represent images.

hex dump

A troubleshooting feature that helps advanced users find the cause of communication problems between the printer and the computer. When the printer is in hex dump mode, it prints each code it receives in hexadecimal notation and ASCII characters. Also called data dump.

high speed printing

Images are printed in both directions for faster printing.

hue

The name of a color representing the color or its gradations.
