Raster Mode
The LabelWriter SE450 co mmand set includes most of the commands inclu ded in the
command set for the LabelWriter 45 0 series printers, as well as the ASCII commands that are
included in this Techni cal Reference. The t wo commands not available nor applicab le to the
LabelWriter SE450 printer are ESC G and ESC q (used to change roll sfor the Labe lWriter
450 Twin Turbo).
Raster mode refersto print ing using the LabelWriter 450 printi ng commands, and is most
often used when using printer drivers to print from Window s,Mac, or Linux compu ters.
Because the LabelW riter 450 commands are an i nherent part of the LabelWriter SE450,
there are no special commands to switch to raster mode. Data may be sent exactly as thou gh
it were being sent to a LabelW riter 450 series printer and the LabelWriter SE450 will
process and print the d ata correctly.
Ify ou need to create your own printer driver for an embedded device or an unsupp orted
operating system, refer to the LabelWriter 450 Series Techn ical Reference for full det ails.
In raster mode, each dot line i s a complete object an d is printed as soon as i t is processed.
Because of this, a raster dot line should n ot be sent while a label i sb eing constructed using
ASCIIco mmands.

Portrait Mode
In portrait mode, text characters travel out of the p rinter fromth e top of the character to the
bottom. It is also possible to switch to thi smod eu sing the set print orientation command
(GS V). The printer is set to portrait mode by default.
Portrait mode is also referred to as immediate mode printing, because each object that i s sent
to the printer while th e printer is in portrait mode is printed as soon as th e object is
completed. No two obj ects may be printed on the same line in this mode because the pap er
is advanced as each o bject is completed an d printed.
