What is the Internet?

The Internet is a vast communications system for computers. Cables, phone lines, and radios connect huge numbers of computers around the world. These connections allow many simultaneous public and private communications.

The Internet does not have an owner or manager. It is a cooperative effort between individuals, private organizations, universities, businesses, and governments.

Let’s take a brief look at how the Internet is put together. A network is the basic building block of the Internet. Two computers create a small network when they are linked to each other.
