Backup Fax Reception enables the HP OfficeJet to receive faxes and store them in memory if something prevents their being printed. With backup fax reception off, no incoming faxes will be received until the problem is solved.

Error Correction Mode (ECM) reduces data lost due to poor

telephone lines. On good quality telephone lines, ECM has little or no effect. On poor quality telephone lines with static, ECM may increase sending time but sends data much more reliably.

Silent Detect enables the HP OfficeJet to receive faxes from older-model fax machines that don’t emit a fax signal. These silent models represent less than 5% of fax machines in use. Leave Silent Detect off unless all of the following are true:

You expect to receive a fax from an older-model machine.

Your telephone answering machine is connected directly to the HP OfficeJet.

Your HP OfficeJet is set to Auto Answer.

Country and Language may not appear in your menu.

Use this setting if you entered the wrong number when identifying your country or language in the initial setup. When prompted, enter the number corresponding to your country and/or language.
