Software description

The User’s Guide and Software CD contains the following software:

vIBM RecordNow: With RecordNow, you can record your own CDs in a variety of ways. You can use the CD copier function to make backup copies of your CDs, or you can make data CDs from files on your hard disk drive. You can also create audio CDs from MP3 files or from other audio CDs.

vIBM Drive Letter Access (DLA): You can use DLA to access your CD-RW drive using a drive letter. You can copy files to recordable media using the windows command line or by using the drag-and-drop method.

vUDF Reader: You can use the UDF Reader to read CDs you wrote with DLA in other PCs.

vStorageGuard: You can use this program to monitor how much data you have backed up. This program also provides for easy Web updates of the recording software.

Before you begin

Read the following information before you start your installation. You must complete the following steps to install the drive:

1.Determine which IDE port to use and the corresponding configuration setting.

2.Place or change the configuration jumper on the drive (you might need to make changes to the configuration jumpers of other devices).

3.Install the drive in a drive bay.

4.Configure the system.

5.Install software.

If you do not understand these procedures or are unsure about your ability to perform all the procedures described, contact a qualified computer technician to install the CD-RW drive for you.

System requirements

Before you begin installing the drive, be sure your computer meets the following system requirements.

vMinimum microprocessor: Intel® Pentium® processor (or the equivalent)

vMinimum RAM: 32 MB2

vAvailable IDE connection

vAvailable internal power connection

vAvailable 5.25-in. drive bay

vOne of the following operating systems:

Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition (Me)

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

Microsoft Windows XP

You might need a flathead or Phillips screwdriver to complete the installation. You might also need to refer to the documentation that comes with your computer. Be sure to have this documentation available.

2.When referring to memory storage capacity, MB means approximately 1 000 000 bytes; total user-accessible capacity may vary depending on operating environment.
