1-5 The Fire Alarm Back-up UPS1481 SIZING
Each model of the Fire Alarm Back -up UPS1481 is designed to s up ply a maximum load which is
given by its kVA (1000’s of volt- a mperes) and KW rating. It is very imp ort a nt that the load is
within the rating of the FIRE AL A RM BACK-UP ups1481 to ensur e that the connected loads will
be properly supported.
Volt - amperes (VA) are the num b er of current in amps a device dra ws multiplied by the nominal
voltage supplied to the device. The total kVA of all the loads to be c onnected to the Fire Alarm
Back-up UPS1481 is simply t he s u m of the kVA requirements of eac h device.
Each electrical device to be p o wered by the Fire Alarm Back-up UPS1481 should have a
specification sheet attache d t o it whic h specifies the amount of power it re quires. In addition,
this information should also be lis t e d in the manual supplied with eac h pi ece of equipment. The
device’s nameplate should list the electrical requirement s of t he dev ice in some or all of the
following units: nominal volta ge, c ur rent, VA or kVA, and watts or K W. I f VA o r kVA is not given,
then multiply the nominal input v olt age by the current shown on the n ameplate. Add up the kVA
requirements of each devic e t o be powered by the Fire Alarm Back-u p UPS1481.
