Things to do before installation
Prior to installing AEs, the following checks and tasks need to be completed on
the WebSphere Server machine:
1. Check hardware and sof tware prerequisites.
2. Create groups and users.
3. Check that IP ports are unused.
4. Stop the Web ser ver processes.

Hardware and software prerequisites

AEs has the following hardware and software requirements:
򐂰Hardware:
180 MB diskspace (minimum) for AEs
50 MB diskspace (minimum) for IBM HTTP Ser ver
135 MB diskspace (minimum) for TEMP directory
500Mhz Pentium III or above
384 MB RAM minimum, 512 MB recommended
Ethernet or token ring card
CD-ROM drive
Network connectivity to the Inter net
򐂰Software:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, SP 1 or 2

or

Microsoft Windows NT
Server 4.0 SP 6a
IBM HTTP Server 1.3.19
(IBM HTTP Server is included with AEs and will be installed if not already
present.)

Create groups and users

To create the required groups and users, perform the following steps:
1. If you have not already done so, create a Windows 2000 user under which the
WebSphere service will be run, as follows:
Locally defined (not a member of a Windows domain)
Member of administrators group.
You can create local users and assign group memberships by clicking
Control Panel—>Administrative Tools—>Computer Management
—>System Tools —>Local Users and Groups.
