5Engage the printhead and load the ribbon.

6Test and readjust if necessary. (Tip: Use direct thermal media to avoid loading and unloading of ribbon multiple times.)

Adjusting Printhead Pressure

The pressure of the thermal printhead against the platen roller is factory-adjusted. However, if the printing is weaker on one side of the media, or if the thermal transfer ribbon starts to crease (indicated by unprinted white streaks along the media feed direction), it may be necessary to readjust the printhead pressure.

Note: Before readjusting the printhead pressure, try the to move the outer balance box as described in Adjusting Printhead Balance procedure.

1Open the side door.

2Remove the ribbon.

3Lift the printhead by pulling the printhead lever out and flipping it a quarter of a turn counterclockwise.

4Use a straight-slot screwdriver to turn the screw at the top of the balance boxes clockwise to increase the pressure, or counterclockwise to decrease the pressure.
