Connecting to the Line 3

Overview

The type of line your carrier provides depends on whether you are in North America or Europe. This chapter provides the following information required to connect your adapter to the line:

connection methods and requirements for connecting to a North American T1/PRI line

connection methods and requirements for connecting to a European E1/PRI line

summary of steps to connect the adapter to the network.

If you are in North America, continue with the next section.

If you are in Europe, skip to European E1/PRI Line on page 23.

North America T1/PRI Line

When you connect the adapter to a North American T1/PRI line, first determine the appropriate connection method, cabling requirements, and link requirements.

Two T1/PR1 line configurations exist: DSX1 (short haul) and DS1 (long haul). When the distance to your carrier is short enough (less than 655 feet or 200 meters), you can generally connect the adapter in a DSX1 configuration directly to the T1/PR1 line. All iSPAN-PRI adapters support the DSX1 configuration.
