SECTION 4—SAFETY INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTINGNOTE:Everysix(6)monthsorasnecessarytakeyourwheelchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianfora
thoroughinspectionandservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhance
thesmoothoperationofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbe
caredforjustlikeanyothervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyour
wheelchair.
Safety Inspection Checklists
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureneedsand
preference.Thereafterfollowthesemaintenanceprocedures:
Inspect/Adjust Initially
❑Ensurewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑Ensurearmsaresecurebuteasytoreleaseandadjustmentleversengageproperly.
❑Ensureadjustableheightarmsoperateandlocksecurely.
❑Ensurearmpivotpointsarefreeofwearandlooseness.
❑Inspectseatandbackupholsteryforripsorsagging.
❑Ensurearmrestpadssitflushagainstarmtubes.
❑Ensureseatreleaselatchisfunctional.Replaceifnecessary.
❑Ensurewheelmountingboltsaresecureondrivewheels.
❑Ensurenoexcessivesidemovementorbindingwhendrivewheelsareliftedandspun
whendisengaged(freewheeling).
❑Ensurewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertensionwhencasterisspun.Castershould
cometoagradualstop.
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and
wear and should be replaced as necessary.
❑Loosen/tightencasterlocknutifwheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
❑Ensureallcaster/wheel/fork/headtubefastenersaresecure.
❑Inspecttiresforflatspotsandwear.
❑Cleanupholsteryandarmrests.
