TRANSMITTING1When ready to begin transmitting, press and hold Mic
[PTT] and speak in a normal tone of voice.
•“ON AIR” and the RF power meter appear.
•Speaking too close to the microphone, or too loudly,
may increase distortion and reduce intelligibility of your
signal at the receiving station.
•The RF power meter shows the relative transmit output
power.
2When you finish speaking, release Mic [PTT].
■Selecting Output Power
It’s wise, and required by law, to select the lowest
power that allows reliable communication. If
operating from battery power, lower transmit power
will give you more operating time before a charge is
necessary. Reducing power lowers the risk of
interfering with others on the band.
Press
[LOW]
to select high (“H”), medium (“M”), or
low (“L”) power. The default is high.
CAUTION:
◆
DO NOT TRANSMIT WITH HIGH OUTPUT POWER FOR
EXTENDED PERIODS. THE TRANSCEIVER MAY OVERHEAT
AND MALFUNCTION.
◆
CONTINUOUS TRANSMISSION CAUSES THE HEAT SINK TO
OVERHEAT. NEVER TOUCH THE HEAT SINK WHEN IT MAY BE
HOT.
Note:
When the transceiver overheats because of ambient high
temperature or continuous transmission, the protective circuit may
function to lower transmit output power.
