Considerationsforattachinganexternalmonitor
•Wheninstallinganoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthedisplaydriverforyourmonitorthatissupplied
withthecomputer,andthemonitorINFlethatissuppliedwiththeexternalmonitor.
•Ifyousetaresolutionhigherthantheresolutionyouareusingonthecomputermonitor ,andusean
externalmonitorthatdoesnotsupportthatresolution,takeadvantageofthevirtualscreenfunction,
whichenablesyoutodisplayonlyapartofthehigh-resolutionscreenimageyourcomputerproduces.
YoucanseeotherpartsoftheimagebymovingthescreenwiththeT rackPointpointingdeviceoranother
pointingdevice.
•Iftheexternalmonitoryouareusingisoutdated,theresolutionandtherefreshratemightbelimited.
Usingdualdisplays
ThissectionintroducestheExtenddesktopfunctionthatenablesyoutodisplayoutput(thesameordifferent)

UsingtheExtenddesktopfunction
YourcomputersupportsafunctionnamedtheExtenddesktop.WiththeExtenddesktopfunction,you
candisplayoutputonboththecomputerdisplayandanexternalmonitor.Youalsocandisplaydifferent
desktopimagesoneachmonitor .
YoucanusetheExtenddesktopfunctionwithoutchanginganysettings.Ifthefunctiondoesnotwork,r efer

ConsiderationsforusingtheExtenddesktopfunction
•IfyouwanttoshowDOSfull-screenwhileintheExtenddesktopmode,onlytheprimarydisplayshows
DOS;theotherdisplayisblackedout.
•IfyourcomputerhastheIntel®graphicscard,youcandesignatetheotherdisplayastheprimarydisplay
bydoingthefollowing:
1.PressCtrl+Alt+Fn+F12.TheIntelCUIwindowopens.
2.SelectExtendedDesktop.
3.Changethesettingtodesignatetheprimarydisplay.
•IfyourcomputerhastheAMD®graphicscard,youcandesignatetheotherdisplayastheprimarydisplay
bydoingthefollowing:
1.Right-clickonthedesktop,thenselectScreenresolution.
2.SelectExtendthesedisplaysinMultipleDisplays.
3.Changethesettingtodesignatetheprimarydisplay.
