Whileitisimportanttoprotectles,data,andsettingsthatareontheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,
youalsomightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem,installnewdevicedrivers,updateyoursystemUEFI
BIOS,orrecoverpreinstalledsoftware.Thisinformationwillhelpyouhandleyourcomputerwithproper
careandkeepitintopworkingshape.

Installinganewoperatingsystem

Ifyouinstallanewoperatingsystemonyourcomputer,youneedtoinstallthesupplementlesand
ThinkPaddevicedriversforitatthesametime.
•IfyouinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,thenecessarylesarelocatedinthefollowingdirectories
onyoursolid-statedriveorharddiskdrive:
–ThesupplementlesfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory .
–Thedevicedriversfortheoperatingsystemsupport edareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.
–ThepreloadedsoftwareprogramsareintheC:\SWTOOL S\APPSdirectory.
Note:Ifyoucannotndthesupplementles,thedevicedrivers,andprogramsoftwareyouneedonyour
harddiskdrive,orifyouwanttoreceiveupdatesandthelatestinformationaboutthem,goto:

Note:Theprocessofinstallinganewoper atingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourharddiskdrive,including
backupsorimagesthatwerestoredinahiddenfolderbyuseofarecoveryprogram.

Beforeyoubegin

Note:IfyourcomputerisequippedwithbothaharddiskdriveandanmSATAsolid-statedrive,youarenot
recommendedtousethemSATAsolid-statedriveasabootabledevice.ThemSATAsolid-statedriveis
designedanddevelopedforthe“cache”functionpurposeonly.IfyouusethemSATAsolid-statedriveasa
bootabledevice,itsreliabilityisnotguaranteed.
Beforeyouinstalltheoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
•IfyouaregoingtoinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,copyallthesubdirectoriesandlesinthe
C:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoar emovablestoragedevice,toavoidlosinglesduringtheinstallation.
•Printtheinstructionsyouwilluse.Gotothesectionfortheoperatingsystemyouareusing:
–InstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem
–InstallingtheWindows8operatingsystem
Notes:
–TheUEFIBIOSfeaturesaresupportedontheWindows7operatingsystem(64-bit)andtheWindows
8operatingsystem(64-bit).
