Apasswordcanbeanycombinationofupto64alphabeticandnumericcharacters.Forsecurityreasons,it
isrecommendedtouseastrongpasswordthatcannotbeeasilycompromised.Tosetastrongpassword,
usethefollowingguidelines:
Haveatleasteightcharactersinlength
Containatleastonealphabeticcharacterandonenumericcharacter
SetupUtilityprogramandharddiskpasswordsarenotcasesensitive
Notbeyournameoryourusername
Notbeacommonwordoracommonname
Besignicantlydifferentfr omyourpreviouspasswor ds
Power-OnPassword
WhenaPower-OnPasswordisset,youarepromptedt otypeavalidpasswordeachtimethecomputeris
turnedon.Thecomputercannotbeuseduntilthevalidpasswordistypedin.
AdministratorPassword
SettinganAdministratorPassworddetersunauthorizedusersfromchangingcongurationsettings.Ifyou
areresponsibleformaintainingthecongurationsettingsofseveralcomputers,youmightwanttosetan
AdministratorPassword.
WhenanAdministratorPasswordisset,youarepromptedtotypeavalidpasswor deachtimeyoutryto
accesstheSetupUtilityprogram.TheSetupUtilityprogramcannotbeaccesseduntilavalidpassword
istypedin.
IfboththePower-OnPasswordandAdministratorPasswordareset,youcantypeeitherpassword.However,
youmustuseyourAdministratorPasswordtochangeanycongurationsettings.
HardDiskPassword
SettingaHardDiskPasswordpreventsunauthoriz edaccesstothedataontheharddiskdrive.Whena
HardDiskPasswordisset,youarepromptedtotypeavalidpasswordeachtimeyoutrytoaccessthe
harddiskdrive.
Notes:
AfteryousetaHardDiskP assword,yourdataontheharddiskdriveisprotectedeveniftheharddisk
driveisremovedfromonecomputerandinstalledinanother.
IftheHardDiskPasswordisfor gotten,thereisnowaytoresetthepasswordorrecoverdatafromthe
harddiskdrive.
Setting,changing,anddeletingapassword
Toset,change,ordeleteapassword,dothefollowing:

2.F romtheSetupUtilityprogrammainmenu,selectSecurity.
3.Dependingonthepasswordtype,selectSetPower-OnPassword,SetAdministratorPassword,or
HardDiskPassword.
4.F ollowtheinstructionsontherightsideofthescreentoset,change,ordeleteapassword.
