Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstallorreplaceamemorymodule.
YourcomputerhasfourslotsforinstallingorreplacingDDR3UDIMMsthatprovideuptoamaximumof16
GBsystemmemory.Wheninstallingorreplacingamemorymodule,usethefollowingguidelines:
Use1GB,2GB,or4GBDDR3UDIMMsinanycombinationuptoamaximumof16GB.
InstallmemorymodulesinthesequenceofDIMM2,DIMM4,DIMM1,andDIMM3.See“Locating

Toinstallorreplaceamemorymodule,dothefollowing:
1.T urnoffthecomputeranddisconnectallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets.
2.Openthecomputercover.See“Openingthecomputercover”onpage30.
3.Removethefrontbezel.See“Removingandreinstallingthefrontbezel”onpage30.
4.Removetheheatsinkfanduct.See“Replacingtheheatsinkandfanassembly”onpage47.
5.Removetheharddiskdrive.See“Replacingtheharddiskdrive”onpage42.
6.Pivottheopticaldrivebayupwardtogainaccesstothememoryslots.See“Replacingtheoptical

8.Removeanypartsthatmightpreventaccesstothememoryslots.
9.Dependingonwhetheryouareinstallingorreplacingamemorymodule,dooneofthefollowing:
