Replacing the battery

Attention

Do not open your server or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter 1 “About this manual” on page 1 and the Safety Information book. To obtain a copy of the Safety Information book, go to:http://www.lenovo.com/support

This section provides instructions on how to replace the battery.

Your server has a special type of memory that maintains the date, time, and settings for built-in features, such as parallel-port assignments (configuration). A battery keeps this information active when you turn off the server.

The battery normally requires no charging or maintenance throughout its life; however, no battery lasts forever. If the battery fails, the date, time, and configuration information (including passwords) are lost. An error message is displayed when you turn on the server.

To replace the battery, do the following:

1.Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.

2.Remove the server cover. See “Removing the server cover” on page 30.

3.Locate the battery. See “System-board internal connectors” on page 25.

4.Remove any parts that may prevent your access to the battery.

5.Remove the old battery.
