Becarefulaboutwhereandhowyouwork
•Storepackingmat erialssafelyoutofthereachofchildrentopreventtheriskofsuffocationfromplastic
bags.
•Keepyourcomputerawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,electricalappliances,orspeakers
(morethan5inchesor13cm).
•Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
•Someappliances,suchascertainportabledesktopfansorairpuriers,canproducenegativeions.Ifa
computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative
ions,itmaybecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemaybedischargedthroughyourhands
whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer,orthroughconnectorsonI/Odevices
connectedt oit.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheoppositeofadischargefrom
yourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic
chargeaboveacertainlimit,however,canincreasetheriskofESD.Therefore,whenusingthecomputer
closetoanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
•Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomput ertotheairfromanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions.
•Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefr omsuchanappliance.
•Whereverpossible,groundyourcomputertofacilitatesafeelectrostaticdischarge.
Note:Notallsuchappliancescauseasignicantelectrostaticcharge.
Begentlewithyourcomputer
•Avoidplacinganyobjects(includingpaper)betweenthedisplayandthekeyboardorthepalmrest.
•Yourcomputerdisplayisdesignedtobeopenedandusedatanangleslightlygreaterthan90degrees.
Donotopenthedisplaybeyond180degrees,asthismightdamagethecomputerhinge.
•Donotturnyourcomputeroverwhiletheacpoweradapterispluggedin.Thiscouldbreaktheadapter
plug.
Carryyourcomputerproperly
•Beforemovingyourcomputer,besuretoremoveanymedia,turnoffattacheddevices,anddisconnect
cordsandcables.
•Whenpickingupyouropencomputer,holditbythebottom.Donotpickuporholdyourcomputerby
thedisplay.
Handlestoragemediaanddrivesproperly
•Ifyourcomputercomeswithanopticaldrive,donottouchthesurfaceofadiscorthelensonthetray.
•WaituntilyouheartheCD,orDVDclickintothecenterpivotofthedrivebeforeclosingthetray.
•Wheninstallingtheharddiskdrive,solid-statedrive,oropticaldrive,followtheinstructionsshippedwith
yourhardware,andapplypressureonlywhereneededonthedevice.
