SB-80DX, SB-28DX, SB-50DX: D-TTL Flash Control

The type of ﬂash control used with the SB-80DX, SB-28DX, and SB-50DX depends on the lens attached:

Lens	Description
	3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash for Digital SLR: Speedlight emits series
	of nearly invisible preﬂashes (monitor preﬂashes) immediately before main
Type	ﬂash. Preﬂashes reﬂected from objects in all areas of frame are picked up
G or D	by ﬁve-segment TTL ﬂash control sensor and analyzed in combination with
lens	range information from lens to adjust ﬂash output for natural balance be-
	tween main subject and ambient background lighting. Not available when
	spot metering is used.
	Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash for Digital SLR: As above, except that
Other	range information is not included in regulating ﬂash output. Precision of
	calculation can be increased for non-CPU lenses by providing lens data (fo-
lenses	cal length and maximum aperture;	131–134). Not available when spot

	metering is used.
	Standard TTL Flash for Digital SLR: Flash output adjusted to bring lighting in
	frame to standard level; brightness of background is not taken into account.
All	Recommended for shots in which main subject is emphasized at expense
types	of background details, or when exposure compensation is used. Standard
	TTL ﬂash for digital SLR is activated automatically when spot metering is
	selected.

1 Standard TTL Flash for Digital SLR is used with spot metering. In other metering modes, ﬂash control depends on lens type (see above).

3 Select Off for Custom Setting e3 (AA ﬂash mode;202).

4 Set Speedlight to mode M and select FP high- speed sync manually.
