Taking Photographs—Focus

Focus Area Selection

The D2Xs offers a choice of eleven focus areas that together cover a wide area of the frame. The focus area can be selected manually, allowing pho- tographs to be composed the main subject positioned almost anywhere in the frame, or automatically to ensure that the subject closest to the camera is always in focus regardless of where it is the frame (closest-subject priority; 79). Group dynamic-AF can be used to focus on the closest subject in a selected area of the frame ( 79).

To select the focus area, rotate the focus selector lock. The multi selector can then be used to se- lect the focus area. The selected focus area is dis- played in the top control panel and is highlighted briefly in the viewfinder.

To select the center focus area (or focus area group) at any time, press the center of the multi selector.

The focus selector lock can be rotated to the locked position following se- lection to prevent the selected focus area from changing when the multi selector is pressed.
