P, S, A, and M Modes

Shutter Speed and Aperture

P, S, A, and M modes offer different degrees of control over shutter speed and aperture:

	Mode	Description
		Recommended for snapshots and in other
	Programmed auto	situations in which there is little time to
P		adjust camera settings. Camera sets
	(0 115)	shutter speed and aperture for optimal
		exposure.
	Shutter-priority auto	Use to freeze or blur motion. User chooses
S		shutter speed; camera selects aperture for
	(0 117)	best results.
		Use to blur background or bring both
A	Aperture-priority auto	foreground and background into focus.
	(0 118)	User chooses aperture; camera selects
		shutter speed for best results.
		User controls both shutter speed and
M	Manual (0 119)	aperture. Set shutter speed to “Bulb” or
		“Time” for long time-exposures.
