Image Quality

To reduce the amount of memory that each shot occupies, pictures taken at settings other than HI are compressed as they are saved to the memory card. Compression selectively reduces the quality of the image; the more the picture is compressed, the more noticeable this loss of quality is likely to be. The actual effect depends on the size of the picture when printed or displayed and on the type of subject.

Description

Maximum image quality. Use when fidelity is of paramount importance. Only available at image sizes of 2272 ⋅ 1704 and 2272 ⋅ 1520.

Fine image quality, suitable for en- largements or high-quality prints.

Normal image quality, suited to most applications.

Basic image quality, suitable for pho- tographs that will be distributed by e-mail or used in web pages.

The current image quality and size settings are dis- played in the monitor. Image size is not displayed at a setting of 2272 ⋅ 1704.
