Component Installation
NOTE: All DS Enterprise and DS XPress components should be installed only by individuals who have been specifically trained to work with DS systems. Improper installation by any individual other than a trained technician, or improper installation of unsupported software or hardware, may automatically void all warranties associated with the DS product.
This section covers the installation of the following Digital Sentry components:
•DS Enterprise SAVR: A combination server and VAU
•DS XPress: A
•DS Desktop: A desktop PC version of DS XPress
•DS 1000: A SAVR with
•DS RealVue XPress: A SAVR with
•DS RealVue Desktop: A desktop PC version of DS RealVue XPress
•DS RealVue RAID: DS RealVue with an external storage option
•XIO: An external I/O panel included with DS RealVue RAID
•DS NVR: A network video recorder
•DMS: A database management server for enterprise systems with a distributed architecture
•VAU: A video acquisition unit for enterprise systems with a distributed architecture
•XMUX2: Camera input units included with some systems
•PTZ cameras: Cameras with pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) functionality, connected through
DS ENTERPRISE SAVR INSTALLATION
To install a DS Enterprise SAVR unit, refer to Figure 3 on page 12 and complete the following steps:
1.Plug the power cord into the power connector ì.

4.Connect the network port ñ to a network switch using Cat5 cable.
5.Plug the USB mouse into a USB connector ó.
6.Plug the USB keyboard into a USB connector r.
7.Plug a USB printer into a USB connector s.
8.Plug PC speakers into the line out connector t.
9.Item u is the FlashGuard cardlet relay output (bottom two pins), which can be used to trigger an alarm when a critical error occurs. Refer to FlashGuard and the WatchDog Service on page 40 for details about the relay output. The top four pins in u are the COM5 connector, which is used to wire
10.Item ~í is an XPress board, which is used to connect to an XMUX2 unit. There is one XPress board for each XMUX2 unit, and the number of boards varies based on the model number. Refer to the XMUX2 installation instructions for details on connecting the XPress boards to XMUX2.
11.Item ~â is the audio connector bracket. From top to bottom are audio inputs
12.Item ~ä is an optional SCSI card, which is used to connect to the external storage units.
13.Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
