RDS(radio data system) is a system for provid-
inginformation along with FM broadcasts.
Thisinaudible information provides such fea-
turesas program service name, programtype,
trafficannouncement standby and automatic
tuning,intended to aid radio listeners in find-
ingand is tuning in to a desired station.
1Programservice name
Showsthe name of broadcast program.
2AFindicator
Showswhen AF (alternative frequencies
search)function is on.
3TAindicator
Showswhen TA (traffic announcement
standby)function is on.
4TPindicator
Showswhen a TP station is tunedin.

!RDSservice may not be provided by all sta-
tions.
!RDSfunctions such asAF and TA are only ac-
tivewhen your radio is tuned to an RDS
station.
Switching the RDS display
Whenyou tune in an RDS station its program
servicename is displayed.If you want to know
thefrequency you can.

thefollowing settings:

PTY(program type ID code) information is
listedon page 13.
#PTYinformation and the frequency of the cur-
rentstation appears on the display for eight sec-
onds.
Receiving PTY alarmbroadcasts
PTYalarm is aspecial PTY codefor announce-
mentsregarding emergencies such as natural
disasters.When the tuner receives the radio
alarmcode, ALARM appears on the display
andthe volume adjusts to the TA volume.
Whenthe station stops broadcasting the
emergencyannouncement, the system re-
turnsto the previous source.
!Anemergency announcement can be can-
celledby pressing TA .
!Youcan also cancel an emergency an-
nouncementby pressing SOURCE,BAND,
a,b,cord.
Selecting alternativefrequencies
Ifyou are listening to a broadcastand the re-
ceptionbecomes weak or there are other pro-
blems,the unit will automatically search for a
differentstation in the same network which is
broadcastinga stronger signal.
!AFis on as a default.
%PressTA and hold repeatedly to turn AF
onor off.
WhenAF is on, AF appears in the display.
