When the mower meets an obstacle during operation, the break away latch will release and allow the mower to swing back in order to minimize damage. The break away can be adjusted to release at higher or lower forces by changing the compression on the Break Away Spring (T). (See Figures 12 &13.)

IMPORTANT: If the break away trips, STOP THE TRACTOR AND SHUT OFF THE PTO DRIVE AND ENGINE SECURE PARKING BREAK ! WAIT FOR ALL ROTATION TO STOP! Then inspect the cutter bar for damage and remove the obstacle. Reverse tractor direction until the break away resets. Engage the PTO drive and continue forward.
WARNING! NEVER REMOVE OBSTRUCTIONS WHILE THE DISC IS ROTATING, EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS. DISENGAGE THE PTO, STOP THE TRACTOR ENGINE, WAIT FOR ALL ROTATING PARTS TO STOP AND ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE BEFORE LEAVING THE TRACTOR SEAT. NEVER ALLOW ANYONE ON THE TRACTOR WHILE YOU REMOVE OBSTRUCTIONS!
