If the AF illuminator light does not reach the subject sufficiently or the subject has weak contrast, focus will not be achieved. (An approximate distance of 0.3 m to 2.3 m (11 7/8 inches to 7 feet 6 1/2 inches) is recommended.)

Focus is achieved as long as AF illuminator light reaches the subject, even if the light is slightly off the center of the subject.

When the focus preset distance is set (page 46), the AF illuminator does not function.

The AF illuminator emits very bright light. Although there are no problems with safety, directly looking into the AF illuminator at close range is not recommended.

When 9 (Focus) is set to [Multi AF] or

[Center AF], the AF range finder is not

displayed. or flashes and the centrally- located subject has priority to focus on.

The AF illuminator does not operate when SCN

is set to (Twilight mode) or (Landscape mode) in the menu settings

(page 55).
