Notes about HD signal output from the DV OUT S400 connector in 23.98PsF mode

It is possible to set 23.9P OUTPUT on the FORMAT page of the OPERATION menu to PD or PSF only when SYSTEM on the FORMAT page is set to 23.9P and SDI OUTPUT SEL on the FORMAT page is set to HD. In this mode, recording to the disc is done in 23.9P, the same format as for 2-3 pulldown.

It is not possible to set VIDEO OUT SEL on the OUTPUT page of the OPERATION menu to VBS. HD Y is selected automatically, and 23.98PsF signals are output.

Operation when the following functions are enabled is as follows.

Slow & quick motion function: Video signals are suppressed (gray display). The slow & quick motion function can be turned off by setting SLOW & QUICK on the SPECIAL EFFECTS page to OFF.

Interval Rec function: Video signals are suppressed (gray display).

Freeze Mix function: Switching between the freeze image and the camera input occurs once every two or three frames. Freeze mix images are not output to the i.LINK connector. The output is camera E-E output.

When you switch REC FORMAT on the FORMAT page of the OPERATION menu to DVCAM, the unit is powered off and on again twice. After the second power on, the format switches to DVCAM, and 23.9P OUTPUT on the FORMAT page switches to PD.

Adjusting the Black Balance/White Balance

To ensure excellent image quality when using this camcorder, conditions may require that both the black balance and the white balance be adjusted.

If the black balance or white balance adjustment is started, messages that report on the progress and results are displayed on the viewfinder screen.

Note

Black balance and white balance adjustment values that are automatically set by the camcorder and the various settings are stored in the camcorder memory and retained even when the power is turned off.

To adjust the black balance

The black balance will require adjustment in the following cases.

When the camcorder is used for the first time

When the camcorder has not been used for a long time

When the camcorder is used under conditions in which the surrounding temperature has changed greatly

When the GAIN switch (L/M/H) values have been changed on the GAIN SW page of the OPERATION

menu

It is not usually necessary to adjust the black balance when using the camcorder after it has been off.

In automatic black balance mode, adjustments are performed in the following order: clamp level, black set, and black balance.

2 1

1 Power the camcorder on, and set the OUTPUT/DCC switch to CAM.

2 Push the AUTO W/B BAL switch to BLK and release the switch.

The switch returns to the center position, and the adjustment is executed.
