This example demonstratesthe TDR featureof the 80E04 sampling module.

TDR is a method of examiningand measuring a network or transmission line by

sending a step into thenetwork and monitoring the reflections.

Prerequisites 1. Connectyour wrist st rapt o the antistatic connector on
the front of yourinst rument. SeeCaut ion on page 7.

2. An80E04 sam pling module must be installed in the
main instrument. The Acquisition system should be set
to Run, and the vertical and horizontal controls should
beset appropriatelyfor the signal tobe acquired.

Input 3. Connect the transmission line to the sampling module
using properprobing/ connecting techniques for your
application (for example: connect an SMA cable, of
<5ns l ength).
PresetTDR 4. Initializethe instrument (pressDEFAULT SETUP).
5. Pressthe SETUP DI ALOGS button and select the TDR
tab.
6. PressTDR Preset for the appropriate channel .
TDRPreset set s Internal Clock in the Trigger menu,
turnson t he TDR Step in the TDR Setups menu, turns
ont he channel and selects the acquisition Units in the
TDRSet ups menu, and sets the horizontal scale,
position, and reference.
Thesam pling module will turn on a red light next to the
SELECTchannel button,i ndicating that TDR is
activated for that channel. You can use TDR on each
channel independently.
