Glossary
Accuracy
The closeness of the indicatedvalue to the true value.
Analog-to-Digital Converter
A device thatconverts an analog signal to a digital signal.
Attenuation
A decreasein magnitude of current, voltage or power of a signal.
Attenuator
An electronictransducer that reduces the amplitude of a signal.
Autoset
A means of letting the instrument set itself to provide a stableand meaning-
ful display of a given trace.
Bandwidth
The range of frequencieshandled by a device or system. Bandwidth is a
measure of network capacity. Analog bandwidth is measured i n cycles per
second. Digital bandwidth is measuredin bits of information per second.
Channel
A place to connect a signal or attach a network or transmissi on line to
sampling modules.
Common Mode
A circumstancewhere a signal is induced in phase on both sides of a
differential network.
dB Decibel: a method of expressingpower or voltage ratios. The decibel scale is
logarithmic. The formulafor decibels is:
dB = 20 log (Vi/Vref)
where Viis the voltage of the incident pulse, Vref is the voltage reference,
and log is the decimal-basedlogarithmic function.
Dialog Box
A displayed box in which you enterinstrument commands.
Differential Mode
A circumstancewhere the true signal and its logical compliment are
transmitted overa pair of conductors.
Digital Signal
A signal made up of a series of on and offpulses.
