Good connections requirea skilled operator. The most common cause of

measurement error is bad connections. The procedu res in this section describe

how to make good connections.

Prerequisites
andprecautions
1. Groundyourself and al l devices. Wear a grounded wrist
strapand work on a grounded, conducti ve table mat.
Also see Electrostatic Discharge on page 38. Refer to
theillustration at right.
2. Inspect connectors. SeeVisual Inspection on page 38.
3. If necessary, clean the connectors. See Cleaning
Connectorson page 39.
4. Usea connect orgage t o verify that all center conductors
arewit hin the observed pin depth values.
5. Formul tiple connections, always put the fixed wrench
ont he inside (stationary) half of a connection, and apply
torquet o the outside movable half.
6. Always torque a single connection, never multiple
connections.

connector
1. Carefully align connectors. Male connector pin must slip
concentrically into the contact finger of the female
connector.
2. Pusht he connectors straight together and tighten the
connectornut finger tight. Do not turn the device body.
Thereis usual ly a slight resistance as the center
conductorsm ate. Uniform, light contact is sufficient for
thepreliminary connection; do not overtighten.
3. Ensurethat the connectors areproperly supported. As
needed, relieve any side pressure on the connection
from long or heavy devices or cables.
