Writing CDs on DVD-ROM&CD-R/RW drives

Depending on the type of drive installed, you may be able to write CDs. The DVD-ROM&CD-R/RW drive lets you write as well as read CD-ROMs. Observe the precautions in this section to ensure the best performance for writing CDs. For information on loading and unloading CDs refer to the Media care section.

Please refer to the Writable discs, Chapter 2 for details about the types of writable CD and DVD discs that can be supported by this computer.

Do not turn off the power to the optical disc drive while the computer is accessing it as this may cause you to lose data.

To write data to CD-R/-RW media, use the TOSHIBA Disc Creator feature that is installed on your computer.

When writing information to media using an optical drive, you should always ensure that you connect the AC adaptor to a live power socket. It is possible that, if data is written while powered by the battery pack, the write process may sometimes fail due to low battery power - in these instances data loss may occur.

Before writing or rewriting

Based on TOSHIBA's limited compatibility testing, we suggest the following manufacturers of CD-R, CD-RW media, however, it must be noted that disc quality can affect write or rewrite success rates. Please also be aware that in no event does TOSHIBA guarantee the operation, quality or performance of any disc.

If the disc is poor in quality, or is dirty or damaged, writing or rewriting errors may be noted - ensure that you check all discs for dirt or damage before you use them.

The actual number of rewrites to CD-RW media will be affected by the quality of the disc itself and the way in which it is used.

Data written to a CD-R disc cannot be deleted either in whole or in part.
