TROUBLESHOOTING

MOWING CONDITIONS

PROBLEM	POSSIBLE CAUSE	SOLUTION
Grass cut lower in center of swath	Height of cutter lower at rear or	Adjust cutter height and attitude so
than at edge	front	that cutter rear and front are within
		1/2" of same height.
Streaking conditions in swath	Conditions too wet for mowing	Allow grass to dry before mowing.
	Blades unable to cut that part of	Slow ground speed of tractor but
	grass pressed by path of tractor	keep engine running at full PTO
	tires	RPM. Cutting lower will help.
	Dull blades	Sharpen or replace blades.
Material discharges from cutter	Material too high and too much	Reduce ground speed but
unevenly; bunches of material	material	maintain 540 RPM at tractor PTO
along swath		or make two passes over material.
		Raise cutter for the first pass and
		lower to desired height for the
		second and cut at 90° to first pass.
		Raise rear of cutter high enough to
		permit material to discharge but
		not so high as to cause conditions
		listed above.
	Grass wet	Allow grass to dry before mowing.
		Slow ground speed of tractor but
		keep engine running at full PTO
		RPM. Cutting lower will help.
	Rear of cutter too low, trapping	Adjust cutter height and attitude.
	material under cutter
Cutter will not cut	Shear bolt sheared	Install new shear bolt.

Cutter will not cut all the time	Slip clutch slipping	Adjust slip clutch according to
(Slip clutch drive only)		instructions in Slip Clutch
		Adjustment, page 20.
