3Select “Check Heart Rate” in the Heart Rate settings menu.
Once your heart rate is measured, it is shown in the display.
The level indicator is shown at the bottom of the display. This indicates the
detected level of your pulse over a range of 0 – 100. The higher value means
your heart rate is correctly and strongly detected. If it seems that your pulse is
not detected properly, try rubbing your ear robe to stimulate blood circulation
or changing the pulse sensor location.
4To register the value as your Resting Heart Rate, first call up the
“Register as Resting HR” display by simultaneously pressing both
/ (Up/Down) buttons.
5Select “Yes” to register the new value or “No” to cancel.
Changing the Heart Rate values
You can also change the Resting Heart Rate setting, by entering it
manually instead of measuring it. The Maximum Heart Rate setting can be
changed here as well.

About Maximum Heart Rate

The Maximum Heart Rate is calculated from your age (220 – age) by
default. However, as you exercise with the BF-1 in Fitness modes or
Training mode, the BF-1 monitors your pace and heart rate during
exercise and calculates your maximum heart rate. If the value differs
from your Maximum Heart Rate setting, you can update the setting with
the new value. For your information, your physical age based on the
maximum heart rate will be displayed together with the maximum heart
rate. When an exercise session is finished, a confirmation prompt
appears asking whether you want to update the Maximum Heart Rate
setting or not (only when the Learning Function is on; page 74).
