Enabling management over external ports

To access and manage your GbE switch module through external interfaces, you must enable the external ports and the ability to manage them. Use the information in the following table to configure your ports.

To enable management over external ports, complete the following steps:

1.Log on to the management module as described in the User’s Guide or Command Line Interface Reference Guide for your management module. If necessary, obtain the IP address of the management module from your system administrator. The management-module window opens.

2.Click I/O Module Tasks → Configuration and click the bay number that corresponds to the location of the GbE switch module that you installed.

3.Click Advanced Configuration and ensure that the external management is enabled.

4.Click I/O Module Tasks → Admin/Power/Restart and ensure that the ports are enabled for the GbE switch module that you installed.

Configuring the GbE switch module using Telnet

Your GbE switch module supports a command line interface (CLI) that you can use to configure and control the GbE switch module over the network using the Telnet program. You can use the CLI to perform many basic network management functions. In addition, you can configure the GbE switch module
