1If the CD Player is equipped with a DIGITAL audio output, you may choose to use that connection for better sound quality

When you select CD on the DMC-1, the audio output from the CD player will play through the audio system While this method of connection is normal, if the CD player is equipped with an optical digital output you may choose to use that instead. The advantage of doing so allows the professional grade digital to analog converters built into the DMC-1 decode the signal rather than having that done in the CD player.
