2.7Installing Additional User Software

After the initial start-up has been completed, the required additional software can be installed on the Panel PC.

When the installation is completed, it is recommended to defragment the hard disk drive.

Proceed as follows to defragment the hard disk drive:

Procedure

1Valid for SIMATIC software with authorization:

Ensure that the authorizations required for the software installed are not on the Panel PC hard disk drive.

Notice

During defragmentation, authorizations stored on the Panel PC hard disk are destroyed.

2Start the defragmentation program supplied with the respective operating system:

Windows 98: Windows 2000: Windows XP:

The scope of these operating systems includes a defragmentation program.

Start Windows Explorer and mark the required drive.

In the context menu, select the menu item Properties and then select the Extras option in the Properties dialog.

Start the procedure in the Defragmentation section.

Follow the instructions provided by the defragmentation program.

Windows NT:

The Windows NT operating system does not include a defragmentation program and must be purchased separately. The procedure for defragmentation is described in the documentation to the respective program.

3Valid for SIMATIC software with authorization:

After the defragmentation is completed, the necessary authorizations can be transferred back onto the hard disk drive.

When defragmentation has been completed successfully, it is recommended to make a backup copy of the hard disk drive. More information on this is provided in Chapter 3.2, Section "Backup copy of the hard disk drive".
