FIREPLACE INSERT INSTALLATION CONTINUED

When installing into a masonry chimney, it is recommended that the exhaust vent be extended to the top of the chimney as shown to the lower right. However, if the vent pipe does not extend to the top of the chimney, the pipe must extend a minimum of 18” above the damper.

You must seal the damper area with a steel plate when using the direct connection method.

The Vent Pipe Must Extend Above The Damper into the first tile of the flue liner (Figure 25) in the USA and to the top of the chimney CANADA (Figure 26). The chimney must not be corroded or damaged in any way for this type of installation to be permitted. A direct vent may be made through the chimney structure if local codes permit.
