Removing and Replacing the Engine Oil

BEFORE PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE OR INSPECTION, STOP THE ENGINE, WAIT FIVE

(5)MINUTES TO ALLOW ALL MOVING PARTS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND COOL. DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG WIRE, KEEPING IT AWAY FROM THE SPARK PLUG.

Tools and Supplies Needed:

SAE 30 HD (see the table on page 14)

Suitable container for used oil

Rags

NOTE 1: The engine is equipped with a Drain Valve for ease in changing the oil (Figure 7).

NOTE 2: Drain the oil when the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely.

1.Position a suitable oil receptacle under the engine oil Drain Valve (located at the Handle Bars side of the engine) and remove the engine oil Fill Cap (Figure 7).

2.Open the engine oil Drain Valve by twisting the valve end counterclockwise and then pull out (Figure 7). Allow the used oil to drain completely, and then close the Drain Valve (push in and turn clockwise).

3.Replace the engine oil using SAE 30 HD oil. See page 14.

4.Reattach the spark plug wire.

NOTE: If you are not reusing the oil, be sure to use environmentally safe disposal procedures in the disposing of the used oil.
