OPERATION
Before transporting the tractor on a public roadway
or boarding a trailer for transport, the tractor brake
pedals should be locked together. Locking the
pedals ensures that both wheels brake
simultaneously while stopping, especially when
making an emergency stop.
Use extreme caution and avoid hard app lications of
the tractor br akes whe n towing hea vy loads at ro ad
speeds. Never tow the implement at speeds
greater than 20 MPH (25 kph). OPS-U- 0018

10.1 Transporting on Public Roadways

Extreme caution sh ould be used when transport ing the tractor and mower o n public roadways. The tracto
r
must be equipped with all required safety warning features including a SMV emblem and flashing warning
lights to al ert drivers of the tractor’s presence. Reme mber that roadways are primar ily designed for automotive
drivers and most drivers will not be looking out for you, therefore, you must look out for them. Check your side
view mirrors freque ntly and remember that vehicles will ap proach quickly because of the tr actor’s slowe
r
speed. Be extremely cautious when the piece of equipment that you are towing, is wide r than the tractor tire
width and/o r extends beyond your lane of the road. OPS-B- 0014
The SMV (Slow-Moving Vehicle) emblem is
universal symbol used to alert drivers of the
presence of equipment traveling on roadways at a
slow speed. SMV signs are a triangular bright
orange with r eflective r ed trim f or both ea sy day an d
night visibility. Make sure the SMV sign is clean and
visible from the rear of the un it before transporting
the tractor and implement on a public roadway.
Replace the SMV emblem if faded, damaged, or no
longer reflective. OPS-U- 0020
