Changing the Wireless Channel
There are a number of operating channe ls from which you can choose—
in the United Kingdom (a nd most of Europe) a nd Australia, th ere are 13.
In other countries, the re are other cha nnel requirement s. Your Router is
configured to operate o n the proper cha nnels for the coun try in which
you reside. The channe l can be changed if needed. If the re are other
wireless networks ope rating in your are a, your network s hould be set to
operate on a channel th at is different than the other wir eless networks.
extension Channel
The IEEE 802.11n draft specification allows the use of a secondary
channel to double the ba ndwidth (see “Usi ng the Bandwidth S witch”
on the next page). An app ropriate extensio n channel will be displayed
when operating in 40MH z mode (see “Using the Wireless Mo de Switch”
below). The channel can be changed if ne eded.
Using the Wireless Mode switch
This switch allows you to s et the Router’s wirel ess modes. Ther e are
several modes.
Note: Some modes may require f irmware updates to b e enabled.
1) off
This mode will turn OFF the Router’s access point, so no wire less
devices can join the ne twork. Turning off t he wireless func tion of your
Router is a great way to s ecure your networ k when you are away from
home for a long period of time, or don’t wa nt to use the wirel ess feature
of the Router at a cer tain time.
Changing the Wireless Network Name (ssId)
To identify your wireless network, a name called the SSID is used.
The SSID is your networ k name. The defaul t network name of the
Router is “Belkin N1 Wire less” followed by si x digits that are u nique
to your Router. Your network name will look somethi ng like “Belkin_
N1_Wireless_123456”. You can change this to a nything you choo se,
or you can leave it uncha nged. Keep in mind , if you decide to c hange
your wireless network name, and there a re other wireles s networks
operating in your area , your network na me needs to be dif ferent from
other wireless networ ks that may be ope rating in your are a. To change
the SSID, type in the SS ID that you want to u se in the SSID fie ld (1)
and click “Apply Changes” (2). The change is im mediate. If you make a
change to the SSID, your wi reless-equippe d computers may also need
to be reconfigured to c onnect to your new network name. Ref er to the
documentation of your w ireless network adapter for inform ation on
making this change.

Note: Please periodically che ck for new Router firmware updates
from the “Utilities > Fi rmware update” page. Newer firmware can fix
problems, add wireles s features, and/or improve wireless p erformance
(see page 61).
