Changing system settings
The “System Settings” page is where you c an enter a new adm inistrator
password, set the time zo ne, enable remote management, and turn on
and off the NAT function o f the Router.
setting or Changing the ad ministrator Password
The Router ships with N O password entered . If you wish to add a
password for greater se curity, you can set a password here. Wr ite down
your password and keep i t in a safe place, as you will need i t if you
need to log into the Rou ter in the future. I t is also recomm ended that
you set a password if you plan to use the re mote management f eature
of your Router.
Changing the login Time-out setting
The login time-out op tion allows you to se t the period of t ime that you
can be logged into the Router’s advanced se tup interface. T he timer
starts when there ha s been no activi ty. For example, imagi ne you have
made some changes in t he advanced setup interface, then left your
computer alone without clicking “Logout ”. Assuming the time -out is set
to 10 minutes, 10 minutes after you leave, the login session will exp ire.
You will have to log into the Rou ter again to make any more changes.
The login time-out op tion is for secur ity purposes a nd the default is set
to 10 minutes. Note: Only one compu ter can be logge d into the Router’s
advanced setup interf ace at one time.
setting the Time and Time Zo ne
The Router keeps time by c onnecting to a Sim ple Network Time Protocol
(SNTP) server. This allows the Router to synch ronize the system cl ock
to the global Internet. T he synchronized c lock in the Router is used to
record the security log and control c lient filtering. S elect the time zo ne
that you reside in. You have the option to select a primary and a backup
NTP server to keep your Router’s clock sync hronized. Select your
desired NPT server f rom the drop-dow n box, or simply ke ep it as is.
If you reside in an are a that observes daylight saving, the n place a check
mark in the box next to “ Enable Daylight Sav ing”. The system clock
may not update immediatel y. Allow at least 15 minu tes for the Router to
contact the time ser vers on the Intern et and get a resp onse. You cannot
set the clock yourself.
