Why isn’t this laptop user's handheld receiving messages?

Symptoms

The laptop user’s handheld has not received email messages since the laptop was last connected to the LAN.

Problem

If the user is running BlackBerry Desktop Software on a laptop connected to a LAN, and the handheld is connected to the laptop, the user must exit the BlackBerry Desktop Manager before disconnecting the laptop from the LAN.

If the user does not remove the handheld from the cradle (or exit the Desktop Manager) before disconnecting the laptop from the LAN, the server will not be notified that the handheld is no longer in the cradle. Therefore, if the "don't forward messages while the handheld is in the cradle" option is turned on, no email will be forwarded to the handheld as the server believes it is still in the cradle.

Solution

Instruct the user to connect to the LAN again. Start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect the handheld to the PC. Then remove the handheld from the cradle and exit the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
